Gargoyles knows all--the balance between good looks and technology goes beyond every level of expectation. The Ballistic Defense system not only provides 5 to 6 times greater impact-resistance, it has the capability of stopping a .22 caliber bullet at 20 feet--which exceeds the MIL-STD 622 ballistic test. The lenses are also coated with a NASA derived scratch-resistant and anti-fog coating which offers 30% more protection than conventional treatments.
Product Reviews I recently bought a pair of these classic shades made in the mid 90's still in the box. This is when they were still made in the US. The outside of the ear piece have Gargoyles written in gold along with the emblem, emblem between the lenses is black, and on the inside of the ear pieces are written "Gargoyles Inc USA". I don't own a pair of the new ones made in CHINA however I imagine they're made to more or less the same specs. I just don't trust anything made in a foreign country, there comes a sense of appreciation when you're wearing original sunglasses and not their cheap knock offs.I pair about $30 more for my pair but seeming these glasses went for $120 in the mid 90's I consider that a deal. And imagine that now these new glasses are only $40-$60, you have to think they've cut back on something, cheaper materials, less quality control... I don't know, and I don't care to. Also the silver emblem on the nose piece of the new ones really annoys me. I think it's distracting to anyone looking at you, all of my gripes about the new glasses are very small. However these glasses are half form and half function so I feel that they should look just as good as they perform. If you want the originals look for black emblem on the nose piece and "Gargoyles Inc USA" on the inside ear piece. If you're really lucky and get an old pair you'll also see "Made in Italy" because thats where they were made pre 90's.
